Job Description

Reporting to the Foreman, the Lead Hand will support the Foreman to manage the crew in the installation and maintenance of shallow underground utilities (electrical, gas, telecommunication, street lighting) for Fortis and Enmax projects and assist in managing crew.  This position is also a point of contact for the assigned crew to ensure that all work is done in a safe and effective manner and to project specifications. 

How You’ll Add Value 

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment 

  • Conduct safety meetings and field-level hazard assessments to identify risks and ensure a safe worksite 

  • Will step into a leadership role as the foreman’s delegate when required 

  • Ensure all employees wear the required PPE to maintain compliance and prevent injuries 

  • Assist with the worksite planning to create a safe and organized job site 

  • Provide orientation training for new hires on required tasks and equipment to ensure proper procedures are followed 

  • Monitor work quality to maintain compliance with project standards and specifications 

  • Maintain accurate records and reporting systems for job site activities to support project tracking and compliance 

  • Assist in reviewing, completing, and correcting documentation, including daily time sheets, tailgate meetings, and incident reports to ensure accuracy and compliance 

  • Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt 
     

What You Bring 

  • 2+ years of experience in shallow utility construction 

  • Prior leadership experience is an asset 

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
