Job Description

As an Estimator, providing junior to intermediate technical estimating services, doing amongst others:

Preconstruction Estimating

  • Review tender packages and establish Westcor Tender Plan
  • Prepare preliminary tender schedule
  • Participate in formal Lessons Learned at project close out to gain a better understanding of the ways the estimating services impacted the Project Delivery Team during project delivery
  • As required, participation in Post-Tender interviews
  • As required, participation in walk throughs

Data and Record Management

  • Set Up and work within Westcor’s ERP system
  • Set up estimate spreadsheet as per contract documents
  • Prepare appropriate quantity take-off according to the tender plan and input into estimate spreadsheet
  • Research new trades for specific tenders and for future work
  • Update the trades list for the current bid/estimate
  • Maintain estimate filing in archives
  • Analyze quotes from subcontractors/suppliers and input appropriate quotes into estimate spreadsheets
  • Ensure tender forms are complete and submitted as per closing times/dates

Communication

  • Conduct/arrange pre-construction site inspections
  • Send out invitations to bid with corresponding plans and specs to qualified trades
  • Make and answer any calls related to tender/bid with trades
  • RFI errors and omissions to consultants
  • Update the appropriate Westcor team members with tender results

Participation in Business Development Efforts

  • Participate in seeking out new opportunities
  • Act as a Westcor Brand Ambassador

Expected Skills and Attributes:

  • Knowledge of construction management and construction estimating principles and practices
  • With more experience, the ability to understand the drawing package and the typical locations on Table of Contents for such packages
  • With more experience, the ability to understand risk mitigation in all its forms
  • With more experience, the ability to give simple direction to people in a small team comprised of estimating and non-estimating team members
  • With more experience, the ability to understand supply chain management
  • Analytical and creative thinking skills
  • Communication and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to action requests and competing deadlines in a timely matter
  • Effective time management
  • Effective data management
  • Proficiency with MS Office, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Project, Bluebeam, FTP sites as well as different share sits that tender packages are provided through
  • Ability and eagerness to continue to learn technology, concepts, construction theory vs reality

Education & Experience Required:

  • Completion of Degree or Diploma in the construction or related field
  • 6 years of related and progressive experience (with a Degree) or 8 years of related and progressive experience (with a Diploma)
  • Some experience in a supervisory role
  • Experience working as part of team
  • Experience with data management and record keeping
