The Crushing Superintendent is tasked with managing the safe, efficient, and productive operations of the crushing department. This role involves leading and supervising a team to meet production goals while adhering to safety and quality standards. Key responsibilities include optimizing crushing processes, ensuring proper maintenance of equipment, coordinating operational schedules, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The position demands strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to fostering a safe and high-performing work environment.

How You’ll Add Value

  • Ensure effective deployment and productivity of work crews, equipment, and resources to meet project safety, schedule, cost, scope, and quality objectives.
  • Oversee daily crushing operations to meet or exceed production targets and quality standards.
  • Develop strategies to improve crushing processes, minimize downtime, and maximize productivity.
  • Work with the Aggregate Superintendent and other teams to ensure smooth material flow and efficient operations.
  • Analyze crushing performance data, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead, train, and mentor the crushing team, ensuring they have the necessary skills to succeed.
  • Set clear expectations, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Actively demonstrate a commitment to safety by:
    • Participating in relevant safety training and engaging senior management on safety activities and successes.
    • Conducting regular Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA), discussing FLHA activities with direct reports, and participating in worksite inspections to provide recognition and feedback.
    • Reviewing inspection reports and preparing quarterly summaries to drive continuous safety improvement.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and innovation within the department.
  • Be willing to actively engage in hands-on tasks, including working on equipment and troubleshooting issues alongside the team.
  • Attend pre-tender meetings and support the securement of new contracts and projects through the estimation process and RFP preparation.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to create and execute comprehensive maintenance plans.
  • Oversee equipment repairs and identify opportunities for upgrades to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Coordinate crushing operations with project timelines, collaborating with construction teams as needed.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure the availability of necessary materials and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of production, safety incidents, and equipment maintenance; prepare reports for management.
  • Contribute to operational planning and budgeting processes in collaboration with other departments.
  • Lead workforce development by:
    • Monitoring engagement levels and fostering a culture of accountability through onboarding, training, performance feedback, recognition, and growth opportunities.
    • Delegating tasks effectively and supervising construction crews to meet objectives while promoting collaboration and team success.
    • Collaborating with People & Culture on recruitment, succession planning, and employee development to maintain a skilled and engaged workforce.

What you Bring

  • Must have 10+ years of combined experience in aggregate crushing and either civil construction or mining.
  • A minimum of 6+ years of prior leadership experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams effectively, with proven success in managing personnel in operational settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of crushing equipment, processes, production planning, inventory management, and optimization techniques.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations, industry best practices, and experience implementing safety protocols in a construction or mining environment.
  • Proficient in data analysis, reporting, and cost management, with familiarity in relevant software tools for operations and budgeting.
  • Experience in customer relations and financial management, with the ability to align operations with customer requirements and sales goals.
  • Strong critical-thinking skills to address operational challenges and a continuous improvement mindset for driving efficiency and innovation.
  • Class 5 License with less than 6 demerits and no major infractions
